There has been a fire in Berlin’s Grunewald (Zehlendorf) since shortly after 4 a.m. on Thursday morning.

After an unintentional explosion at the blast site there, a fire broke out and set the adjacent forest on fire, according to the fire department. “The situation is unclear,” said a spokesman. Small explosive detonations can still be heard.

According to the spokesman, no one was injured in the explosion.

The fire brigade is on site with 77 emergency services, including ambulances and emergency doctors. Firefighting is made difficult by potentially further exploding ammunition.

The A 115 motorway also had to be closed due to the explosions.

Residents should keep windows and doors closed. Ventilation and air conditioning should be turned off.
