Kauko Röyhkä regrets the situation of musicians and writers.

Musician and writer Remote is annoyed and concerned about the cultural field. He has previously told about how the money is tight on Facebook.

Röyhkä told Iltalehti that he could do well, but lately the money has been tight because of a few coincidences, as Röyhkä himself says.

Röyhkä gets money from gigs, but there is far less income from music and books than before.

Röyhkä tells how it may take a year or a couple of writing one book, but the book’s income is low.

“There is hardly any money for sales,” Röyhkä regrets.

The prepayment for publishers is approximately EUR 3000, with library compensation on top.

– Many times there is only a couple of three tons in the hand. Then you may get some scholarships, but they also have tougher competition today than before.

At the same time, according to Röyhkä, publishers want longer books because they are listened to as audiobooks.

– And then somehow it feels like it’s harder to get one book even published. Publishers are pretty careful just because books sell so much worse.

In general, the entire literature industry is worrying about the rope. Young literacy is weaker than before, and the whole book is not able to read the end.

– When I attend literary events, there are often only old people there. It seems that the whole literature is starting to disappear.

Money for gigs

“Go to the right job” is a dull command that many artists have had to hear.

– It must be said that at least I work hell in both music and literature. I have published a couple of books a year. I do not know how many professional people would agree to work with these wages.

Röyhkä’s income comes mainly from gigs. Older music is also played on the radio, but new songs are not really anywhere.

According to Röyhkä, the music world in general has become more difficult. The starting point for the downhill was radio playlists.

– It’s pretty unfortunate when you think about what Finnish rock ‘n’ roll has been like. There are many talented factors, good lyricists and composers.

Röyhkä himself has gigs to come throughout the spring and summer.

– The solo gigs are the ones that have been lived here. But of course I also want to work with bands. My bread has always been good bands.
