The Batman: New interpretation with great success

The new version of the DC film classic was so successful, among other things, because director Matt Reeves put a different focus in his story. For example, he moved Batman’s role as a detective to the fore and gave the villain of Gotham City a depth of character. In a new interview with Josh Horowitz, Reeves now revealed the first details of the continuation of the DC film.

For example, he revealed that he wanted to move away from the conventional villains of the franchise. Apparently a villain should be seen in the sequel that “has never been shown in a film before”.

Focus on new villains

And although Reeves did not want to say which villain it was about, he at least let through which factors influenced his selection. The focus was strongly aimed at finding a character that Robert Pattinson would not push too much into the background in his leading role. “We chose a villain who deals with what he is doing and who deals with his past and his life,” he said.

Already in the first part there were indications of the joker, depicted by Barry Keoghan, who may have a significantly larger role in the sequel. So far, however, it has only been officially confirmed that Colin Farrell returns as a penguin. In addition, Reeves made it clear to Horowitz that the second part tells the Batman character and the role of Bruce Wayne in a way “as it has never been shown before”.

Fresh paint in the DC universe

However, Matt Reeves does not intend to tell the history of the Batman even finer from the perspective of the Bruce Wayne. It is much more disturbing that the narrative, after the narrative of the origin, is often only supported from the stories of the villains. In the second part, he wanted to create a balance between the history of Wayne and the previously unknown antagonist. The classic DC films should receive a fresh coat of paint.

The continuation is still in pre -production, the finished script by Matt Reeves and Matson Tomlin has already landed with the corresponding actors: inside. Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, the theatrical release is scheduled for October 1, 2027.
