Although the incident in Ostend is less threatening than, for example, drones above the Kleine Brogel military base in Limburg, according to Francken, domestic and foreign investigations into the drones have been started. The army leadership has given the order to shoot down spy drones from the sky if necessary.
It is not yet known whether there will be additional surveillance around critical infrastructure in West Flanders, such as the port of Zeebrugge or the air base in Koksijde. However, additional consultations will take place this week between defense and police.
