Uli Hoeneß comments on his future at FC Bayern Munich – and hints at when he would retire from the German record champions.

FC Bayern Munich without Uli Hoeneß – actually unimaginable. The long-time manager and now honorary president and supervisory board has shaped the German record champions like no other. But now the 73-year-old has spoken out about a possible withdrawal from the club – in clear words.

At the Munich Marketing Congress on Friday evening, Hoeneß said: “If you no longer like what I do, then you have to tell me. Then I’ll go – and very quietly – to my mountain on Lake Tegernsee.”

Most recently, Bayern’s goalkeeping legend Sepp Maier suggested that his long-time companion withdraw: “Uli, if I can give you some advice, stop,” said Maier, according to a report in the “Allgäuer Zeitung” on Friday. The 81-year-old criticized Hoeneß for not being able to let go and continuing to interfere in all issues surrounding the club. “I don’t know if he’s doing himself a favor,” explained Maier.

At the Munich Marketing Congress, Hoeneß also commented on the criticism of him and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “Rummenigge and Hoeneß, they are constantly chattering in between,” said Hoeneß. “That’s not true at all,” he clarified.

He emphasized that he and Rummenigge would speak out less often – if they had the feeling that “FC Bayern is running the way we imagine.”
