The Hungarian national team was forced to take big actions.
Hungary won only one match at the World Cup, but kept its place in the A series. PDO
The Hungarian national ice hockey team has settled its internal disputes.
Two years ago, the team was buzzing when the striker Vilmos Gallo, also known from the SM League, barked at Hungary’s head coach at the time Don MacAdam “for a fool”. He told about it at the time Nemzeti Sport magazine.
At the same time, also an experienced goalkeeper Bence Balizs expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the national team – although not quite as strongly as Gallo.
Now Hungary’s Vice-Captain Janos Hari says that the disagreements have been resolved. The country’s entire ice hockey game has been ventilated with a heavy hand.
– Everything is now up to the new coaches and the union. The atmosphere among the players is good, Hari tells Iltalehte.
Vilmos Gallo’s speeches caused an uproar two years ago. PDO
The 34-year-old attacker himself was actively involved in brokering the agreement.
– I had to take part in meetings with the coaches and the association. It took a little extra work, but we figured it out and now it’s behind us.
According to Hari, the dispute did not involve nearly the entire dressing room.
– There was a dispute between one of the players and the coach, he announces.
Gallo played only two matches in the World Cup in Switzerland, because he and his wife had a child in the middle of the tournament.
The government likes it
Janos Hari has also played in the SM league. He has represented HIFK and Pelicans. PDO
Currently, Hari describes the Hungarian national team as one big family.
– There are also many people at home who did everything for this World Cup project. Many players were involved in the camps and made this team better.
Hungary finally achieved one victory over Great Britain in the games, but in the other matches it came to a halt. However, the team kept its place in the A series of the World Cup, which guarantees financial support in the future.
– Staying in the A series is a big deal for hockey’s popularity now that our country’s government has also changed. Hopefully we will get two wins next year, says Hari.
The tournament of the ice lilliput ended with a minor victory, when Latvia rolled over it with a score of 8–1.
– It was a strange match. We took too many ice creams. Latvia scored two overtime goals right at the start and our momentum was tied to that.
– Our understrength has been absolutely brutal throughout the tournament. We have to do something about it.
