Microsoft recently declared 2025 as the year of the Windows 11 update. The company hopes that as many as possible will update the operating system to the latest version as the end of Windows 10 support approaches. In Microsoft’s latest reminder, users are advised to update as soon as possible, because updating is only possible for a certain period of time.
A recent article published on Microsoft’s website explains how users can avoid being excluded from support. In the article, the company recommends, among other things, to check the Windows 11 system requirements. In addition, Windows 10 S mode users have to exit the mode before the update.
Users unable to upgrade due to compatibility issues will be offered a one-time opportunity to extend support for a year for $30. However, the support package only includes the right to security updates, Neo’s tells.
Microsoft is creating a sense of urgency for users by telling them that the Windows 11 upgrade is only available for a limited time for free. The company tried the same trick ten years ago by offering a free Windows 10 upgrade for a year. Although the time limit expired, the update remained free for several years.
It’s impossible to know what will happen when Windows 10 support ends on October 15th. The possibility of a free upgrade may actually end, but it is also completely logical to assume that Microsoft would continue the possibility well into the future. However, users should not delay unnecessarily if they have already made a decision regarding the update.
