It is an exciting week for RTL 4, because The Voice of Holland returns to the air. Will it score or will the viewer fail? “In any case, it will be a real woke edition,” sneers Victor Vlam.

After all the filth and filth, RTL 4 has decided to continue with The Voice of Holland. We can all watch it again on Friday, and according to TV critic Victor Vlam it will do quite well. “I do think that the viewership will be lower than it was in the past,” he says in his podcast Victor Indicates TV.

On its way back

According to him, the previous Voice figures will never be achieved again. “The Voice, before it was taken off the screen, was already in decline. Seasons two, three, four, five were of course the heyday and since then it has all scored less.”

He continues: “The fact that they have no live shows, that everything has already been recorded, except for the result that will be done in RTL Tonight, makes it all a bit less. That means that it will be a good viewing figure, but not the best viewing figure ever for that program.”

Bitter aftertaste

Does the Voice riot affect the viewing figures? “I think there has been a bitter aftertaste in people’s minds, because the negative publicity has of course been enormous. There has been a lot of attention to the terrible things that have happened behind the scenes.”

He continues: “People have not simply forgotten that, but I am inclined to think that the television viewer is ultimately a bit opportunistic. This means that if it is fun, people will watch again.”

Woke edition

What could cost The Voice viewers is political correctness, Victor thinks. “It is of course more of a woke edition of The Voice. Instead of having coaches who may have something exciting or an edge, it is all very safe. For that reason it may not go down well, also in terms of presenters.”

“It is of course logical that someone replaces Martijn, but whether Edson is the best there or whether it plays a role in the fact that he is a presenter of color… Yes, you can of course ask yourself that. Maybe they should have chosen someone else. Anyway, those are all things we can talk about later.”
