The Associació de Veïns i Comerciants Via Laietana informed Barcelona Oberta last Thursday, January 13, that it is abandoning the commercial axis due to discrepancies related to the reform of the street, which the Barcelona City Council plans to start next March.

In the letter, addressed by the president of the Via Laietana association, David González Deltell, to the president of Barcelona Oberta, Gabriel Jené, the former indicates that, after a meeting of the board of associates, “it has been decided to withdraw us from Barcelona Oberta for the following reasons & rdquor ;, which he cites below.

“Barcelona Oberta decided to prepare and present allegations to the Barcelona City Council regarding the planned reform of Via Laietana without our prior review, our association being the main affected and interested party in this reform”,” says the letter, which continues: “We cannot share the content of these allegations because it is not going into details of the reform, but rather they are allegations that go against carrying it out & rdquor ;.

González implies that the association is also critical of some elements of the project, but refuses to slam the door: “We all know that there are many points in this reform that could be improved, but a comprehensive reform is urgently needed due to the current situation of decadence and neglect of this important road in our city & rdquor ;.

Decision “imminent and irrevocable & rdquor;
