“He CBD or cannabidiol; It is one of the compounds of the Cannabis Sativa plant and is used to relieve muscle pain, among other properties, according to a report by specialists in the United States. This has caught the attention of many patients and specialists in neural health. The cannabis or hemp plant contains a chemical substance that, when extracted, has been found to contribute to the health of patients suffering from seizures. This substance is what is known as CBD.”, explains the Spaniard Alfredo Carpenter Angulospecialist in pharmaceutical sciences.
According to specialists, studies have shown that the substance extracted from hemp contains small doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Therefore, it does not cause the adverse effects of regular marijuana use. That is, it does not cause the effects of euphoria, well-being, or addiction. Cannabis plants that have levels of THC high are classified as a drug harmful to the nervous system. In contrast, those with low concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol are useful in the field of health and is called CBD.
Doctors warn that you have to be very careful where you get this type of medication. In some countries cannabidiol has been approved as a treatment in patients with seizures. But as expected, the use of CBD must be done under medical advice. On the other hand, it is not recommended to make homemade preparations with cannabidiol, especially to take it as a medicine, because the effectiveness or the integrity of the patient is not guaranteed.
Medical studies have established that CBD can help alleviate the symptoms of many diseases, including anxiety, chronic pain, depression, insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Tourette syndrome, autism, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis.
The treatment in which CBD is most frequently used is to treat dravet syndrome. “In this disorder of genetic origin, the patient may experience fever and seizures, caused precisely by the high temperature. Over time, the symptoms may worsen until an epileptic status develops. Well, according to some clinical trials it has been corroborated that while this syndrome reduces the quality of life of patients, the use of CBD offers relief”, indicated Billy Dunn, director of the Neurology Products Division of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the FDA of Spain.
The approval of the use of CBD in seizures aroused curiosity about its efficacy in other health problems such as Parkinson’s disease. Some research has been carried out to check the efficiency in this field. However, the results are still not conclusive.
Currently, studies are being carried out in patients with Parkinson’s disease, which are the biological bases of a possible effect of cannabidiol in the pathology. According to research, he gave a dose of CBD (150-400 mg/day) combined with classical antiparkinsonian agents to some patients and the result was positive. However, the number of candidates was very small, so possible side effects and efficacy need to be studied in a larger group.
Between the side effects that are mentioned in the use of CBD oil and creams to take into account are low blood pressure and dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness and loss of appetite. The use of these products in pregnant women and children is contraindicated.
