Cristiano Ronaldo has to miss two to four weeks due to a thigh tendon injury. His World Cup appearance in the summer could still be historic.

Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a tendon injury to his left hamstring during a game against Al-Fayha. His club, Al-Nassr, announced on Tuesday that the 41-year-old soccer star will now have to take a break of two to four weeks.

The injury does not jeopardize Ronaldo’s appearance for Portugal at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Should Ronaldo take part in the finals in the summer, he could become the first player to make six World Cup appearances.

The German record international player Lothar Matthäus played like Ronaldo and four other professionals in five finals. Ronaldo’s long-time rival Lionel Messi, who plays for Inter Miami in the North American MLS, is also aiming for his sixth World Cup with the defending champions.

There had previously been rumors that Ronaldo had left Saudi Arabia due to the escalation in the Middle East. This was suggested by published flight data that showed Ronaldo’s private jet had completed a seven-hour flight to Madrid.
