Top model in search J. Alexander, 67, an ex-model and catwalk instructor known as a judge of the program, became seriously ill a few years ago. He talks about it in the Netflix news documentary Searching for a top model and the dark side of reality TV.
J. Alexander says he had a stroke in December 2022.
– I was in a coma for five weeks. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t speak. I thought to myself, what am I doing?
– It was an emotional time. I cried, J. Alexander says.

Years after becoming ill, the ability to speak has largely recovered. He still can’t walk.
– I missed when I was the queen of the catwalks. I taught models to walk. Now I can’t walk. Not yet. I decided to walk. My game is not played yet, says J. Alexander.

Colleagues say that J. Alexander has come a long way with his recovery. J. Alexander bursts into tears.
On the other hand, Tyra Banks has not come to see her former colleague, even though it has been years since he got sick.
– He texted. He wants to come visit. But no. Not yet, J. Alexander says in the documentary and looks meaningfully at the camera.

American Top model in search – program was made for 24 production seasons between 2003 and 2018. The program was also popular in Finland. Tyra Banks, who had a successful career as a model, was the show’s creator and host throughout its production.
J. Alexander, real name Alexander Jenkins, served as a coach from the beginning of the show until season 18 and again in seasons 21 and 22. He also served as a judge for the competition for several seasons.
J. Alexander has also been seen Finland’s top model wanted – as a guest judge of the program.
