The throat speaks to Finns.

For a few weeks, there are fewer cucumbers in the shops. Anu Kivistö

There is currently a temporary lack of cucumber in the shops. Is there a risk that the same situation will encounter other vegetables?

CEO Niina Kangas It says that the heat may have influenced all crops in the greenhouses in some quantities.

– Especially throat growths are stressed by a long period of heat. Tomato, salads and herbs somewhat, Kangas continues.

However, with these, he does not believe that there would be problems with the availability of any other vegetable.

The prices of greenhouse vegetables are determined by demand and supply. Kangas notes that in July, for example, there was plenty of cucumber on the market and at least in the Helsinki metropolitan area, cucumbers were sold for up to a very cheap 50 cents per kilo.

– Now the situation is different. But no worry, the situation will normalize within a few weeks and soon the favorite of the whole people’s cucumbers should be found again in the whole country, Kangas comforts.

S Group Market Shop Sales Manager Katarina Vikman notes that the stores have not seen the hoarding of the throat. The same thing is told about Kesko’s communications.

– Cucumber is traditionally a very high volume product that many Finns buy weekly, and that demand typically increases as everyday life begins. Demand for the throat has been in a subtle year of about 4 % over last year, says Vikman.

According to Vikman, cucumber prices change weekly. In addition to demand and supply, they are influenced by the competitive situation and commercial activities.

The S and K-Group comments on the price development of the throat.
