Vilma Nissinen says she is in the shock of her life.
Finnish skier Vilma Nissinen was quite satisfied on Friday at the Ruka ski stadium.
– I have never skied so well. Last year there was a 2.13 difference winner to Frida Karlsson and now 1.20, Nissinen rejoiced.
The woman who lives in the capital region was the fifth best Finn in the 10 km traditional intermediate start race, in 23rd place.
– A really good ski. After the tests in the morning, the caretaker said that the holding stable will be changed for the race. I hadn’t even skied that hold before the race, Nissinen reports.
– I’ve never before, for example, come straight up the Impilinna climb. The ski fit and it was also slippery, he added.
Nissinen has not been part of the national team in recent years. During the summers, he has been a private stable in the strength of Team Elecktrofit.
– Of course I want to show. I have been doubted quite a lot whether I will become a skier of any level. I feel that in the last couple of years I have been able to raise the level, commented the skier who finished in 15th place in the free 50 km at the World Championships in Trondheim.
Nissinen looked 28 last week.
– The endurance athlete’s best years should be ahead.

Finland has eight places for women’s cross-country skiing at the Italian Olympics. Kerttu Niskanen, Krista Pärmäkoski and Jasmi to Joensuu the race passes have already been stamped, so there are still five tickets to be distributed.
– If Ruka doesn’t get to continue the World Cup, it’s pretty much game over. I understand that by the start of the Tour de Ski, a line will be drawn for those who are Olympic skiers.
Nissinen has taken into account in his training that the mono has to be fed right from the first snow.
– A clear fitness spike for these first ones. Another fitness spike if you make it to the Olympics. I’ve done everything a couple of percent before in every area.
The woman representing Vuokatti Ski Team Kainuu considers an Olympic place a realistic goal.
– There is a debate in Finland about the Olympic places for normal distances. There are three standard distances at the Olympics, so they want versatile skiers. I think my strength is that I can be put on any journey. I have bet that I can ski everything, and there is no need to rely on one trip.
At the beginning of his career, Nissinen was clearly stronger with traditional, but especially Jarmo Riskin in coaching, free has developed significantly.
– For example, when thinking about the combined race at the Olympics, I’m in a good situation when I can ski competitively with both methods of progression.
