In December, VTsIOM published the results of a poll, according to which an equal number of respondents among Russians called Ukraine a source of threat and a friendly country for Russia.

Participants were asked a question about what, in their opinion, Ukraine is for Russia. For 29%, the neighboring country is brotherly, this answer was chosen by slightly fewer respondents than two years ago (30% in 2019). Another 26% thought that Ukraine is just a neighbor for Russia. 12% each answered “A source of threat to Russia” and “A friendly state”. Another 9% called Ukraine a hostile country, and for 4% it is a strategic partner. 1% of respondents considered the neighboring state a competitor to Russia.
