Kärpät got revenge for the loss experienced in Helsinki on Friday.
Kärpät beat HIFK in Saturday night’s fight with goals 5–2.
There were 5155 spectators in Raksila to witness Oulu residents washing their faces. Kärpät coach Petri Karjalainen praised the support the team received from the home crowd at the press conference.
– There is a lot of talk about the atmosphere in Sweden and Switzerland, but there was a damn good atmosphere here today. Of course, HIFK always ignites, Karjalainen said.
The season of the northern big club has been dreary. Karjalainen was told that the team had changed its playing to Saturday night, even though he had sworn that the way of playing would remain the same.
The master pilot let it be understood, with a little twist, that the filing had been made.
– In the past, we have talked about playing what the game requires. We shouldn’t be idiots running headlong to go there. Yes, we consciously sometimes defend with a little slower rhythms, support the center and eat away from the opponent. We were very good. We were able to reduce what is given to the opponent. Maybe that’s the blessing that we got a result.
Kärpät is ranked 13th in the series. HIFK continues as a jumbo.
OJ fell silent
Just before the start of the match, the hall had to be evacuated due to a fire alarm. According to Kärppie’s press release, the reason was the torches lit by the away fans in the stands.
Fire trucks arrived in Raksila, but in the end the confusion was over in a good quarter of an hour.
Head coach of HIFK Olli Jokinen made a dodging move when asked about it after the match.
– There is nothing to comment on, “OJ” stated.
