It starts with a note in the mail or someone at the door who is interested in renting an empty barn. And it ends up in a cannabis farm or a drug lab. Drug criminals know where to find owners of empty barns and buildings in Drenthe.
The province is a paradise for drug criminals. Drenthe has space, there are empty buildings in remote places and the inhabitants are not yet prepared for drug crime. “Those drug criminals often do not come from Drenthe itself,” says Jan Hoekman, public prosecutor specializing in undermining, in the TV program De Staat van Drenthe. “We see that criminals from Brabant and the west of the country visit Drenthe for their criminal business.”
