After Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on Wednesday (November 15), Al Jean shared a tweet about “The Simpsons” predicting the future again. Jean shared a picture from an episode from 2015 of an election poster that reads “Trump 2024.” Al Jean is a writer and producer on The Simpsons, and over the years it’s become a running joke that the writers of the show keep predicting the future.

The scene of Homer Simpson flying through the air and seeing Donald Trump’s campaign poster isn’t the only “prediction” The Simpsons made about Donald Trump. Back in 2000, the episode “Bart’s Future Look” saw Lisa Simpson come of age celebrating her victory as the first female president. Arriving in the Oval Office, she said, “As you know, we inherited quite a budget crisis from President Trump.” Although the episode takes place in a different year from Donald Trump’s actual presidency (2017-2021) and does not feature a female follower, Joe Biden took over the presidency, for many this is a “funny” coincidence.

Another “prediction” made on the show: In the episode “Lisa’s Wedding” (1995), a poster from a Rolling Stones tour in 2016 was shown. Who could have guessed that the band would still be active more than 20 years after the episode aired and would also play a South American tour in 2016.

Another case would be the 2013 horsemeat scandal that The Simpsons joked about back in 1994. In one scene, the elementary school canteen lady is seen stirring a barrel labeled “Assorted Horse Parts.”
