As announced on Saturday (November 1st) in an official Epic Games blog post, there is a crossover between the long-running animated series “The Simpsons” and one of the world’s most popular online multiplayer platforms – “Fortnite”.
Players can look forward to a range of new character skins, cosmetic items and a brand new 80-player map called Springfield Island in Battle Royale.
New skins and the Springfield Island map
The update for the free online shooter appears as part of the paid Battle Pass. This offers access to premium outfits, including Homer, Marge and Flanders, as well as “Simpsons” versions of the “Fortnite”-Avatars Fishstick and Peely.
While these premium items can be purchased through the pass, the new multiplayer map will remain available for free throughout the event. This also applies to the classic Battle Royale base island.
At the same time, Epic Games is introducing a new feature called Sidekicks. This allows players to purchase small pets that will follow them around the game in real time. The first of these companions is not based directly on The Simpsons, but Peel’s banana-yellow dog fits thematically perfectly into the crossover universe.
Cel shading and Springfield
Like previous skins based on cartoons, The Simpsons Avatars are designed in a cel-shaded style to stay true to their iconic series look. The entire world of Springfield will be playable throughout November.
Additional updates and new content appear every week – presented in animated short films produced in collaboration with Gracie Films, the production team behind The Simpsons.
The first short film titled “Apocalypse D’Oh” has already made its debut on social media. Three more will follow on November 10th, 17th and 24th (each Monday). All short films are also available on Disney+, where all seasons of the series can currently be streamed.
“Simpsons” also in Lego Fortnite and Rocket League
Like most new skins and cosmetics in recent years, the “Simpsons”-themed content can be transferred to other “Fortnite” experiences – particularly “Lego Fortnite,” where the characters appear as minifigure versions.
In addition, Epic Games is partnering with The Simpsons on a limited-time event in Rocket League where new cosmetic items will be available.
Fortnite is free to play on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, macOS, Windows, Android and iOS. Access to the “Simpsons Battle Pass” costs 1,000 V-Bucks (around 8.99 euros).
