The sharp edges of sexual violence

Stit is nice that an important issue, such as that of sexual violence, often ends up hostage to political events and the consequent exploitation.

It happened when the son of Beppe Grillofounder of the M5S, and it has happened again these days, with a girl’s complaint against the son of the president of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa.

Sorry because, in trying to hit this or defend that, we lose sight of a complex reality. Here we talk about sexual violence, but also about a cross-section of our society that sees the youngest protagonists and their way of being together.

The columnist of Free Filippo Facci, also overwhelmed by the controversy for a comment on the story, in his own way poses a central theme. Facci writes: «There are other problems. One is that, in between, there is not only the thousandth generation unknown and ultralight, distracted, far from our taboos and from the burdensome concept of “crime”: in between is that normality of evil that are today’s disco drugs – constantly evolving».

Bianca Balti, the shocking story of the rape:

The objective of the commentary is to demonstrate that the versions of the protagonists of the story may have been altered by the assumption of drugs and that the use of the latter is part of a mode typical of an “ultralight” youth. In short, as everyone does, it is useless to unravel the tangle of responsibilities, indeed impossible, Facci seems to suggest.

But there is a reality, the one recorded by the expert report of the Mangiagalli clinic, injuries that “could be compatible” with a picture of sexual violence. And this is a given. Just as one point on which the investigation will have to dwell should not be lost sight of: violence exists not only when dissent is expressed but also when consent cannot be. No one is allowed to abuse an unconscious person.

Holding this principle in place, everything else fades into the background. Even that hint of a lost youth that waves its anxieties into unconsciousness.
