The FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which ended with Argentina’s victory, is remembered for many special incidents after the final whistle.
Lionel Messi’s dressing in an Arab robe and a goalkeeper by Emiliano Martinez harsh ventilation resulted in a third commotion, when a Turkish celebrity chef Nusret Gökce appeared on the field. He got to pose with the new world champions and had time to touch the World Cup trophy before he was ushered away from the venue.
Gökce’s actions enraged the sportsmen. According to the rules of the international football association Fifa, only a select few are allowed to touch the World Cup trophy. A social celebrity who is completely outside the team does not belong to this group.
As if to underline contemporary social media culture, Gökce, who became an international celebrity with his salt-scattering skills, i.e. Salt Baerevisited the events of last November in an interview with The Times.
– I ended up on the field after the match because I love Argentina and I was happy for their victory. Many of the players had visited my restaurants, so I didn’t feel like an outsider. It was a special moment, Gökce tells the British newspaper.
The Turk regrets his actions.
– I never wanted to steal attention. There were at least a thousand people on the field, but everyone’s eyes were on me. Billions of people talked about my act after the match. I can no longer make it undone, but I won’t do it again, says Gökce.
According to Gökce, it wasn’t a well-considered publicity stunt, but at least that’s what it brought him. Gökce currently has over 52 million IG followers.
