The Russian motorsport boss, General, who has been banned from several countries Viktor Kiryanov has returned to the international automobile association FIA.
The BBC revealed yesterdaythat in 2022 Kirjanov, who was forced to resign due to the war of aggression started by Russia in Ukraine, participated in the meeting of FIA’s highest decision-making body, the motor sports council, already last June. The matter became public only now, when the BBC got a tip on the subject.
Kirjanov is on the sanctions list set by the USA, Canada and Britain for his involvement in the administrative management of the state-owned company Rosteh. His property has been ordered to be confiscated and travel restrictions have been placed on him.
Despite these hard state actions, the chairman of Fia Mohammed bin Sulayem invited Kirjanov back to Fia’s activities.
Fia’s representative justified the months-long silence in informing Reuters of the matter by saying that the umbrella organization wants to guarantee all its members the opportunity to participate in the positions of trust they have been given, regardless of political situations.
Criticized for his authoritarian management style, bin Sulayem has applied for a further term at the head of Fia. He will be elected later this year for a new four-year term, as all other candidates have withdrawn their applications.
Kirjanov, who served as the chairman of the Russian Motorsports Federation, will end his current membership in the Motorsports Council in December. He is not on the candidate list for the next season.
Mohammed bin Sulayem continues to lead Fia. PDO
