A seventh place. That’s what De Broers Roo had to compete with last night at the Regional Song Contest in Arnhem. With their catchy song Olde Jetta they brought a good dose of Drenthe sobriety and energy to the stage.
After the results, the brothers stood side by side. They came for the win, but could not compete for the highest places. “Still, this doesn’t feel like a downer,” Alfred Roo responds. “It was fun and we did well, but I quickly realized that a win was not possible.”
The victory ultimately went to Jeroen Russchen and Iwan Esajas from Groningen, who won with the song Everything Gold. “That was a really catchy song,” Jaap Roo praises the northern neighbors. “They were already at the top after the public votes and they deserved to win.”
The brothers are also positive about their own performance. “We came sixth in the audience, which is a bonus,” says Alfred. “And it was just fun to be here.”
Moreover, the brothers do not sit still. “We’ll continue again,” says Jaap enthusiastically. “New music is coming, and a new theater tour is also planned for next year.”
Tonight, however, they’re taking it easy. “First we’re going to enjoy the evening,” Alfred laughs. “Finally we can have a beer.”
