Xhun Zhou is “The woman of the river”.

Made in an adventurous way, censored at home, awarded abroad, never screened in Italy, the most famous film (2000) by the Chinese filmmaker arrives in a restored 4k version.

The protagonist is the hometown of the author, Shanghai, and the river that crosses it, witness to the life that swarms on its banks. The narrative voice of a videomaker, in love with Meimei, a young woman who works as a mermaid in a bar-aquarium, accompanies and perhaps deceives.

Among the stories of the underworld that run feverishly through the megalopolis is that of Mardarcourier on behalf of a boss, and Moudan who chooses to disappear into the river for the pain of a betrayal and to reappear, identical in the eyes of the lover.

A woman who lived twice, yearnings drowned in vodka, a noir puzzle that comes together and reassembles. To be seen.
