the reasons for applying for the opposition

“I’d rather be an official than a precarious one”summarizes Claudia Estruch, a young woman who this Saturday has appeared for the exams of the Generalitat’s oppositions. She is a veterinarian, but she is sick of working in the private sector. “Today, young people are not well paidwe are working in precarious conditions”, he complained after finishing his exam to access a higher technical position. The same speech that he defended Monica Vega, unemployed graduate. “If you’re a civil servant, you don’t have headaches,” she explains.

Estruch is from Valencia, but studied veterinary medicine in Catalonia. He is now working in a private clinic. “You work guards, weekends, holidays… and they pay you 1,120 euros per month. How do I pay the rent?“, lamented the young woman. That is why she decided to oppose. David, a 26-year-old boy offered the same argument. “I like the option of working in a clinic, but I prefer a good quality of life. You see the schedules of the employees and the salaries and you think… It’s the only way I can find to pay my rent. It’s just that everything is very expensive,” the young man assured. “They have better structured schedules than in companies,” added the young man.

“I don’t like dog clinics, but I have worked in many places: slaughterhouses, farms… in the end you prefer to be an inspector for the Generalitat because of the job stability, the hours, the quality of life that it gives you… whatCan you imagine living without headaches from work??”, he wonders Monica Vega. She is now unemployed and has assumed that she will not have access to the position. “There are very few and I don’t have any prior experience,” she says, looking at her friend, Irene Planaswhich accumulates three years of interim.

family reconciliation

“Let’s see, let’s not fool ourselves, I want to be a civil servant because it is the only job that allows you to balance your family without suffering”, be honest ruth, a 43-year-old interim. “And the salary, of course,” adds Nerea, another applicant. “I stopped working many years for family reasonsbut then I went back to work six years ago and I’m working as an intern at the Conselleria d’Educació”, says Carmen, a woman who chooses to work now as a social worker in the Conselleria de Drets Socials. “The good thing about working in administration is that They have much more consideration than in private companiesWith my family problems, it’s the only place where I can have job stability,” he explains.

The friends with whom the exam has been prepared smiled. It does not seem to be the main reason.
