(toskanews) — A video depicting this is rapidly making the rounds on social media The Rag Dolls during a discussion with an operator from the radio-TV press room dedicated to Sanremo Festival. In the video, the band members respond decisively to provocative requests, giving rise to a heated debate on the role of feminism and the gender equality.
The discussion began with a question that questions the topic’s relevance today: “Don’t you think that today, in the 1930s, this contrast is a bit old?” When asked, the band replied: «We really like the word feminist and it’s important in a society where there is still no equality. Thanks for the question because it allows us to talk about it. It’s not going against men, but wanting aequity».
The tension increased when the interlocutor argued: «Ours is not a patriarchal society, in my house my wife rules»convinced that equality between the sexes is now consolidated. The musicians responded clearly: «But women should not have power in the home. We want equality everywhere».
To the minimization according to which «Women today work outside the home as much as men», the band objected: «It’s not true. There equal salaries there is not yet, there is a lot of research that proves it”, drawing attention to the disparities still present in society.
A controversial passage in the video – in which the speaker utters the phrase “I too can be raped” – sparked further critical reactions online, contributing to the viral spread of the video.
