Helsingin Sanomat says that the prosecutor demands an absolute prison sentence for entrepreneur Jethro Rostedt instead of a conditional one.
In September, Rostedt was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of one year and eight months for tax fraud. In addition to this, Rostedt was sentenced to 90 hours of community service.
The verdict was for three aggravated and one basic form of tax fraud. Rostedt avoided an absolute prison sentence by confessing to the crimes.
According to HS, the regional prosecutor has appealed the district court’s decision to the Court of Appeal. In his appeal, he demands an absolute prison sentence for Rostedt instead of a conditional one.
According to the prosecutor, the sentence should have been unconditional because the tax crimes involved considerable sums and the evaded tax was related to the transfer of real estate and stock transactions, the newspaper says.
Rostedt, on the other hand, has filed a counter-appeal, in which he demands that his sentence be reduced to one year and four months of conditional imprisonment without community service.
The district court of Varsinais-Suomen told Iltalehte already in September that the prosecutor has expressed his dissatisfaction with the verdict.
At that time, Rostedt commented on the matter briefly Stop.
– I think the sentence is really harsh, that’s all I can say, Rostedt told the newspaper.
