Since taking office, there has been a clear change in Stubb’s style that sets him apart from others.

The President of the Republic, Alexander Stubb, is known as a master of modern business casual dressing. His style is also often described as sporty, but sharp.
Stubb’s special skill is to dress stylishly according to the spirit of the times. After taking office, there has been a change in Stubb’s style. The sitting president has started favoring double-breasted suits.
A double-breasted suit refers to a suit jacket with buttons in two rows, so that there are usually either four or six of them in total. In this way, the fit of the jacket can be improved and neater than single-breasted.
A single-breasted suit has only two buttons. The single-breasted suit is the most popular suit model.
In the collections of suit manufacturers, the double-breasted is usually the most prestigious and special model, says Sokos men’s fashion group manager Iiro Kourujärvi.
– A double-breasted suit creates a particularly neat and dressed-up impression. The biggest difference is the two-row buttoning of the jacket fastening, but the suit can be built differently with the help of details or the number of pockets, for example.
According to Kourujärvi, double-breasted suits have been seen more in dress trends in recent years.
Kourujärvi does not comment on the president’s dressing style, but considers a double-breasted suit to be an excellent choice for everyone, regardless of the official occasion.
– A fashion professional is delighted by a dresser who naturally manages different styles and situations, he says.

Men’s fashion expert and CEO of the Schoffa brand Anton Koivisto judged Iltalehte already in September that the cornerstones of Stubb’s style include a dark blue or dark gray single-breasted or double-breasted suit with a wide lapel collar.
Double-breasted suits are a somewhat new addition to his repertoire, Koivisto now estimates for Iltalehti. Today, Stubb’s outfits show more of a classic descent and less of the sparseness of his Prime Ministerial days.
– With a double-breasted suit, Stubb can communicate internationality and elegance, which speaks of civility. On the other hand, it is also about daring to stand out from the crowd and go your own way, comments Koivisto.
In his opinion, a double-breasted suit is a button choice for the president with wide collar lapels.

According to Kourujärvi, the double-breasted suit refers to a very classic English dress tradition, but it is also linked to the elaborate Italian suit-making culture.
– The jacket’s wide Peak lapel collar, soft “Napolitan” shoulder with visible ruching, and the suits’ elegant chalk stripes and herringbone patterns allude to Milan, maybe even Naples. The small print patterns on the ties, in Hermès or E. Marinella style, are also very Italian-influenced, Koivisto continues.
Italian influences have been seen before in the clothing choices of the President of the Republic. The suit for the castle celebrations for the president was made by the Italian tailor Sartoria Rossi.
In addition to the more distinctive buttoning, Stubb’s collar lapels are a bit wider in line with the times. The collars of Stubb’s shirts are high enough with the jacket, and together they often create a strong leader-like image.
