Marin’s suspected stalker can therefore also be a threat to Marin’s child, which must be taken seriously, writes Riia Pakkanen, editor of Iltalehti.
Ex Prime Minister Sanna Marini the restraining order application has sharply divided Finns’ opinions on social media. On Thursday, it was reported that Marin is applying for a restraining order against a 36-year-old man who is not known to the public. The motive for stalking the suspect is not yet clear.
Unfortunately, too many Finns belittle Marin’s application and even justify the actions of the persecutor. Such opinions are presented, for example, in the comment fields of updates on the Facebook and Instagram accounts of Iltalehti, Ilta-Sanomie, Seiska and MTV.
– He tortured the people for a year. Sometimes the other way around.
– Didn’t Sanna want followers?
– Yes, it’s like that, whoever starts playing, let the game last. Are you starting to cry now?
– The best thing is always the number of laughing emoticons in these Sanna news.
However, many who laugh at Marin have forgotten the most serious aspect of the situation: the safety of her child.
According to the information obtained by Iltalehti, Marini’s suspected stalker has previously been ordered to restrain his ex-spouse and their common child. According to the woman, the man had, among other things, threatened her and their child’s life with messages and calls to the woman’s mother.
Marin’s stalker can therefore also be a threat to Marin’s child, which must be taken seriously. So if you laugh at or belittle Marini’s restraining order application, then you are forcibly jeopardizing her child’s safety. A minor child who has nothing to do with the things Marin is hated for.
In general, it is absurd to be amused by things that endanger Marin’s safety just because, for example, his appearance or his decisions during his time as prime minister are not pleasing. It is equally ridiculous to justify persecution by saying that “as a celebrity you just have to put up with it”. The question is, does the child also have to endure all that his mother is supposed to endure?
At worst, the social media who laugh at the situation aimlessly encourage others to persecute women and mothers. The growth of such persecution threatens the safety of every family.
In addition, it increases the misogyny that already haunts our country. I think a Facebook user’s comment in the comment field of Iltalehti’s article summed up this view the best.
– Some people here adore that [Marinin] persecutor. Strange violence against women is at the top of our list. Sick so sick.
Fortunately, there were also many on social media who showed that they found the persecution of Marin and people in general to be reprehensible. But even one comment justifying persecution can endanger the safety of all our families.
