MLS returns to action this Wednesday

Portland Timbers defeated Austin 1-2 this Sunday and reinforced their aspirations to qualify for the MLS Western Conference playoff.

All the goals in this match had a Latin seal. Chilean Felipe Mora and Brazilian Evander scored for the visitors while Argentine Sebastián Driussi scored the goal for the Texans.

The Portland team fired coach Giovanni Savarese in mid-August after the embarrassing 5-0 against the Houston Dynamo and then lost 2-3 against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

But after that game against the Canadian team, the Timbers, now with Joseph Miles as interim coach, have bounced back in a big way with three wins and a draw in their last four games, including prestigious triumphs like the one they achieved last week against Los Angeles FCwhich is the current MLS champion.

The Portland team is now ninth in the Westwhich is the last place that gives access to the ‘playoff’, while Austin is twelfth in the same conference.

MLS returns to action this Wednesday with a special day during the week.
