You can hardly have missed the impressive photos of mountains of unattended luggage at Schiphol. All suitcases that have been left behind at the airport and of which the owner sometimes has no idea where it is. At the moment there are still about 1,500 suitcases, bags, but also buggies and prams left behind. With thousands of people going on holiday in the coming weeks, the question arises: how do you deal with this? Do you still dare to take your suitcase with you on holiday?

At Schiphol it is a great chaos due to suitcases left behind, and the end does not seem to be in sight for the time being. There are several causes for the luggage problems at the airport. For example, the airport is still struggling with staff shortages, including in baggage handling.

As a result, luggage cannot be brought on board on time. Suitcases and bags must also be taken off board regularly if travelers miss their flight. This is in turn because they queue longer than usual, because there is also a lack of staff at check-in.

Baggage workers are ashamed of the chaotic conditions at the airport. NH spoke to some of them, you can tell their story here read.

We are curious how this news reaches you. If you are going on holiday soon, how do you solve this? Are you traveling with only your hand luggage, or are you spreading all your holiday essentials over several suitcases to spread your chances?
