The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has died

Frontman of the punk band The Pogues Shane MacGowan has died at the age of 65. The news of the death is confirmed by the singer’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke in his Instagram post.

– I don’t know how to say this, so I’m just going to say it. Shane, who will always be my light and the love of my life, is gone, Clarke says in her long post.

– I can’t describe in words the feeling of loss and longing I experienced. Thank you for being present in this world, which you made brighter. You gave so much joy to so many people with your music, soul and heart, he adds.

A representative for MacGowan confirms that the artist died peacefully on November 30 at 3:30 in the morning. According to the spokesperson, the singer’s wife and sister were by his side until his last breath.

MacGowan is said to have suffered from health problems. He was recently in the hospital with a brain infection. About a week earlier, Clarke had said that her husband had been released from the hospital.

Born in England to an Irish immigrant family, the musician served as the frontman of The Pogues band from 1982 to 2014, i.e. from the band’s birth until its termination. The band is known for, among other things Fairytale of New York -, Dirty Old Town – and The Irish Rover from his songs.
