The Ombudsman announced the detention by Russia of two Ukrainian sailors in the Crimea

Two Ukrainian fishermen disappeared in the Black Sea, they were detained by the FSB. About it on Facebook stated Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

The names of the missing fishermen are Ivan Gerasimenko and Ruslan Romanyuta, they set sail from Genichesk in the Kherson region on the Volga fishing vessel on January 25, but did not return. According to preliminary data, the engine stopped working on a fishing boat, because of which the fishermen washed up on the Crimean coast near the city of Shchelkino in the north of the peninsula. Denisova said that Russian border guards notified the Ukrainian side about the detention of the fishermen.

“On this fact, the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 146-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (enforced disappearance),” she wrote.

Denisova called Russia an “occupying country” and said that the detention of the fishermen was contrary to international law. She called on the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights, Tatyana Moskalkova, to take steps to free the Ukrainian fishermen. “I urge representatives of international human rights organizations to keep the situation under control,” she concluded.
