Double Olympic swimming champion Yannick Agnelia accused of rape and sexual abuse. The French judiciary is seeking a sentence for an ex-swimmer for a ten-year-old relationship with his coach’s 13-year-old daughter.
Agnel himself was 23 years old at the time of the acts. In the interrogations, he has claimed having been consensual and “loving” in the relationship.
The sexual relationship between Agnel and the underage girl came to the fore five years ago, but it was only now that the case was brought to court. The matter is proceeding to court, after Agnel’s complaint about the case was rejected yesterday Thursday.
According to the prosecutor who filed the charges, the large age difference between Agnel and the coach’s daughter gives the right to treat the case as rape and sexual abuse.
Agnel ended his racing career in 2016 shortly after the Rio Olympics. Four years earlier, he won two Olympic golds and one Olympic silver at the London Summer Games. In addition, he has three world championships and two other medals from the long and short track World Championships.
