FC Bayern has also had an office in New York for eleven years. Its meaning is becoming increasingly important. T-Online looked by there and discovered interesting things.
Julian Buhl reports from New York
As always, everything is actually on the Rockefeller Plaza in New York this Monday morning. As usual, there is a busy hustle and bustle, the song “Piano Man” by Billy Joel can be heard about the outer speakers. Many businessmen in the suit are on the way, numerous tourists take photos with their smartphones. After all, the snapshot of the fountain with the iconic gold figure of the Greek Titan Prometheus and the Rockefeller Center right behind should not be missing in any holiday album.
One thing is different than usual. On the famous 49th Street between Rockefeller Plaza and 5th Avenue, an old, brown-white bus has parked. It is decorated with flags, scarves and jerseys of FC Bayern. Bavarian pretzels are distributed in front of it – in the middle of New York. Again and again curious passers -by gather and inquire about what it is all about. The people who came in the Bayern jersey have long known. On a marketing campaign, there are some memorabilia from 125 years of club history to see, including photos of Franz Beckenbauer and jerseys by Arjen Robben or Manuel Neuer.
Of course, the bus is not by chance in front of the Rockefeller Center. But because FC Bayern has an office in it.
The Munich club has been represented in New York since 2014, and at the end of 2023 the record champion moved to the prestigious high -rise. Since then, Bavaria’s goal and revolving door can be found to the (sports) world.
Actually, there was an even larger event as part of the club World Cup, which is currently being held in the USA. And of course also a flying visit by the person responsible for President Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and CFO Michael Diederich, who was only there a few months ago, in the Bayern office in the “Big Apple”. The quarter-finals of the German record champions last Saturday in Atlanta against Paris Saint-Germain (0: 2), which now meets Chelsea in the final this Sunday, thwarted these plans. Instead of continuing to the final week to New York, Bayern’s travel entourage flew back to Munich on Tuesday night.
Harry Kane and Co. have not made it to the oversized LED screens on the high-rise facades on Times Square. There, in the world’s greatest possible advertising shop, only the top stars of other teams will be presented this week. Now only the finalists like Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé from Paris Saint-Germain or Chelseas João Pedro flicker in endless loops over the screens.
A small highlight is still waiting for some selected Bayern fans this morning. As part of a tour, they can take a look at the office of their heart club in the Rockefeller Center.
With the turbo elevator, it goes to the 20th floor, in total the skyscraper offers 65 floors. Already in the open entrance area of the office it becomes clear where you ended up here – and to read this without the club logo of FC Bayern Munich and under there in capitalized “Americas” on the wall. On the side directly opposite, you will receive directly from what the record champion is: trophies.
