Eintracht keeper Kaua Santos

The goalkeeper-change-you game at Eintracht Frankfurt is entering the next round: Kaua Santos, who was displaced by Michael Zetterer in October, is now displacing Michael Zetterer again before the duel with Borussia Dortmund.

Eintracht Frankfurt once again has a new number one. After Kevin Trapp’s move to Paris and the associated signing of Michael Zetterer, a short and rather unfortunate stand-in and grab next to Kaua Santos including Zetterer’s return, it is now the Brazilian’s turn again. “Kaua is playing against Dortmund,” coach Dino Toppmöller announced at the press conference on Thursday: “He has been in top physical condition in the last few weeks and months. That’s why we have confidence in him.”

Zetterer, who was relegated to the bench, dealt with the decision extremely professionally in a personal conversation this Thursday and was a real team player anyway, said the coach, who was happy to have two good keepers in the squad.

Zetterer has to go back to the second half

Santos’ next chance to prove himself is certainly not a surprise. Over the past few weeks and months, those responsible at Eintracht have never tired of pointing out the 22-year-old’s special abilities. If they want to promote and develop their goalkeeping talent at some point, then they have to do it now. Given seven games in January and a duel with BVB on Friday (8.30 p.m.), the water the Brazilian is thrown into is already very, very cold.

Zetterer, on the other hand, finds himself once again in the role for which he was probably planned from the start: on the bench as a backup. The ex-Bremer can’t really blame himself for anything. Zetterer initially held what there was to hold and was exactly what the Hessians needed: rock-solid support. Towards the end of the year, the 30-year-old also made mistakes and thus gave rise to discussions. Overall, Zetterer is a decent Bundesliga keeper, probably nothing more and nothing less.
