Argentine politics added a playful, ironic and surprisingly realistic version. This is “Things Happened”, a new board game that invites players to become presidential candidates and go through an electoral campaign where strategy, negotiation and money management are as decisive as chance.
The objective is clear: to reach the Presidency. But the path is far from linear. Throughout the game, players must compete for votes in the different provinces of the country, close alliances with opinion leaders or the media and manage an always scarce budget, in a context where the economy is fragile and any unforeseen event can change the course of the campaign.
The game incorporates classic elements of local politics, such as the thread, agreements under the table and maneuvers to influence rivals, with one no small detail: a bad move can leave the candidate out of the race early, even with the risk of ending up in prison. Nothing is guaranteed and every decision has consequences.
“Things Happened” relies on a tone of acid humor and political mischief, but it also requires planning, financial intelligence and negotiation skills. The proposal targets both political fans and groups of friends and families willing to debate, discuss and laugh at a system that, many times, surpasses any fiction.
The game sells for 80 thousand pesos and can be found at El Bosque Lúdico, a store specialized in board games located in Vicente López, which offers both in-person sales and advice for those looking for experiences different from the usual classics.
With recognizable references, absurd situations and a dynamic that mixes strategy and chance, “Things Happened” turns the Argentine electoral campaign into a board where winning does not depend only on good intentions, but on the political waist to survive until the end.
