On October 12, 2025, the Netherlands will start the step-by-step introduction of the European entry and executive system (EES) on 2 maritime border posts: Eemshaven and IJmuiden/Amsterdam-Haven. All Schengen countries will introduce the EES, which will replace the traditional stamping of passports for non-EU residents.

The Netherlands opts for a step -by -step introduction, starting on smaller border posts to introduce the system in a controlled manner and to limit any disruptions. After the maritime posts, other border posts and the smaller airports follow. A small -scale start at Schiphol will follow on 3 November. The Ees will be expanded there from the beginning of December.

The complete introduction of the EES on all Dutch border posts is planned within a period of 6 months. In the meantime, the stamping of passports remains in force.

The EES applies to non-EU residents who want to stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within a period of 180 days.

The new system contributes, among other things, to better border control and combating illegal migration.
