The Netherlands is donating a support package worth 500 million euros to Ukraine. This is part of a new American initiative, the so -called Prioritized ukraine requirements list (Purl). NATO allies decrease military equipment from the stocks of the United States for Ukraine. With this contribution, the Netherlands finances a full package as a full package and is thus the first NATO ally to donate resources to Ukraine through this new initiative.
On July 14, US President Donald Trump, together with the Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte, launched the new initiative. Ukraine can draw from the US military equipment stocks if they are funded by NATO allies. The United States releases military support in packages worth around 500 million dollars. The packages consist of resources for air defense, ammunition and other essential supplies, tailored to the needs of Ukraine. Other allies have also promised financing. After financing, the packages are delivered to Ukraine via the logistics hubs established for this.
Minister Brekelmans: “The daily Russian attacks are pure terror, intended to break Ukraine. We do not want to make this happen as the Netherlands and therefore contribute to these American support packages. Especially American air defense systems and ammunition are crucial for Ukraine to defend themselves. The Purl initiative does not come instead of ongoing support, but on top of it. The intention is that the 1st 2 Purl support packages to deliver to Ukraine this month. A new load of equipment must follow every 2 to 3 weeks. The fast delivery of equipment makes the Ukrainian position at the negotiating table stronger in the future.

Minister Brekelmans announced 2 weeks ago that the Netherlands was open to substantially support Ukraine through the purchase of American equipment. The minister said this at a digital meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG). By finance a package as the first NATO ally, the Netherlands adds the deed to its floor.
Our country also meets commitments made in June during the NATO summit in The Hague. It has been agreed here that allies will invest more in Defense and continue their assistance to Ukraine.
