Urjala Confectionery’s online store sells second-rate confectionery with a very special name. The bitter-tasting Pineapple Pins have gone to the online store like hot stones.

Behind the name lies a human error. It’s the working name for sweets, which by no means had to end up in the final candy bag.

“It must have been a Friday afternoon, and I didn’t come up with any great names, so I thought it should be that working name between me and my brother, that we know what we’re talking about,” says the commercial director of Urjala Confectionery. Timo Tuominen.

In the midst of file transfer and email, the humorous work name was accidentally printed in Sweden all the way to the finished candy bags.

– For a while we thought about what to do with these, that they could be put up for sale, but then we thought we could. As brothers, we are not bothered if we are laughed at. In the midst of war news, it’s nice to offer people joy for the day, Tuominen says.

Pineapple pins were made in a test batch of approximately 3,000 kilograms. The purpose of the test batches is to test the reception of the product.

– Some work, some flop and some can be used for confectionery mixes, for example.

The bitter-tasting Pineapple Pins have become very popular in the online store, and candies are now only available in a 20-gram tasting bag version to cater for as many people as possible.

Since the popularity has been so strong, could the product remain in the range permanently under this name?

– We have customers decide which products we have in our selections. At the moment, it seems that the Finns are perverted enough that we can continue to order these, Tuominen says.
