The multifunctional building Hunzehuys in Borger is in the hands of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn. The transfer of the building is planned for mid -January 2026.

The municipality buys the Hunzehuys from Housing Corporation Lefier. According to Borger-Odoorn, this is done because it is easier for the municipality to expand and change the building.

Hunzehuys, which includes a primary school, library and village house, has to do with lack of space. This also applies to more primary schools in Borger-Odoorn. Last year Borger-Odoorn released a total of 1.5 million euros to renovate Hunzehuys.

The municipality says it does not need extra money for the purchase of Hunzehuys. Borger-Odoorn is already paying rent for the schools to Lefier. These amounts will remain the same in the future, but in the form of capital costs. In addition, the municipality receives rent from the other tenants.

The city council must still agree to the purchase at the beginning of November. There is also permission from the Housing Corporations Authority.
