Protagonist Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and sent to Shawshank Prison in the 1950s, where he befriends long-term inmate Red.
After a difficult start, quiet and observant Andy finds his place in prison. He used to work as a banker and benefits from his good number sense behind bars.
He also gets to hold on to a spark of hope, unlike Red, who is content with his fate and has good relationships outside the prison. The two become friends within the scope of Red’s transactions.
The role of Dufresne is played by someone who has acted in numerous films Tim Robbins. The role of Red is played by Morgan Freeman.
