The mother tongue: An enormous treasure of identity

On February 21, as every year, the International Mother Language Day was celebrated, proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO in November 1999 with the aim of promoting linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism. This celebration led me to reflect on my relationship with my mother tongue, a treasure planted by my Yugoslavian mother and my German father.

The path of my native language has taken different directions, twists, turns and twists, but I have always felt the commitment and determination to honor my cultural heritage. Initially, I continued the learning received by my parents in bilingual schooling. Then, I applied my knowledge in my first job in a German company. Later, I taught the language to my children and, finally, in my professional career, I have dedicated more than 20 years to teaching the language to more than 400 children at an early age and to accompanying and guiding more than 150 teachers in methodologies and didactics. of German as a foreign language.

This journey has evolved today at DAL Deutsch Aktiv Lehren, a methodology for teaching the German language to children at an early age. For me, this represents a valuable treasure of identity, as it has laid the foundation for the construction of my personality and, even more significantly, it has defined the purpose of my life, honoring my own history and my culture, but above all , promoting respect for others.

I invite you too to explore and celebrate your native language! It is an invaluable legacy that deserves to be shared and preserved, not only as part of our individual identity, but also as a bridge that connects cultures and enriches the world in which we live.
