The last days of 2022 are all about looking back at NH Sport. Which reports, stories and moments deserve to be read one more time in the spotlights to put? Today: a report on Ruud Slagter, a late bloomer in the pack of marathon skaters, nicknamed the Cauliflower King.
The traveling Marathon Cup circus has fifteen competitions throughout the country. On Saturday, November 26, the skaters will descend on De Westfries ice rink in Hoorn.
One of the participants is 26-year-old Ruud Slagter. The native of Lutjebroek skated in the U23 division in recent years and regularly won competitions there. The switch to the A-division this year is therefore not illogical. But after this nice step up, Slagter only manages to finish a marathon once.
Why? In the above report, the Cauliflower King says that the combination of skating and his physical work in the countryside as a cauliflower grower takes its toll.
