The most beautiful Italian films of 2022, from Nostalgia to The Eight Mountains

fAt the end of the year, it’s time for balance sheets. And speaking of Italian films: which were the best and most beautiful of 2022? Cinemas have started to repopulate again, they are not as full as they were before the pandemic and perhaps never will be again. but the trust in the hall continues and the strenuous defense as a chosen place to enjoy a movie. In the meantime, here are our favorite Italian films.

Nostalgiaby Mario Martone

Taken from novel by Ermanno Rea, Nostalgia tells the story of a man who returned to Italy after rebuilding his life in Egypt. Happy (Piefrancesco Favino) set foot again in Naples due to the death of his mother, but his stay in the Neapolitan capital brings back memories of the past.

Between these, the relationship with his childhood friend, Oreste (Tommaso Ragno), who he hasn’t spoken to in years. She tries to look for him, but discovers that he has become a Camorra boss. Nevertheless, she does everything to meet him again, but doesn’t realize that now, years later, they are two different men.

Presented at Cannes Film Festival 2022 garnered excellent critical acclaim. Chosen as Italian film the Oscars 2023 did not pass the tough selection of the Academy to enter the list of Best International Films.

Diabolik – Ginko on the attack!by Manetti Bros.

Remake of the French Everyone standing. Piefrancesco Favino plays Gianni, a successful fifty-year-old with an irrepressible passion for women. The story kicks off when he gets to know Alessia (Pilar Fogliati)which due to a misunderstanding he thinks it is quadriplegic like his sister Chiara (Miriam Leone).

So he introduces him to his sister, of which he is struck by lightning. He then decides to continue on pretending to be disabled in order to win her over, sure that his plan will not be able to fail. However, he hasn’t come to terms with the woman in front of him. Available on First videos.

The eight mountainsby Felix Van Groeningen

Between the best Italian films of 2022 there is The eight mountains, based on the homonymous novel by Paolo Cognetti and released at the cinema this Christmas. The protagonists are Alessandro Borghi and Luca Marinelli, respectively in the role of Bruno Guglielmina and Pietro Guasti.

At the center of the plot, the relationship between two childhood friends, who remain connected despite time, distance and life’s ups and downs. Above all, despite the differences. Pietro is a man of the cityneeds it and is not made to live in the mountains. Bruno, on the other hand, knows that this will always be his home and does not detach from it.

The hanging sun – Midnight sunby Francesco Carrozzini

Alessandro Borghii is the protagonist of The hanging sun – The midnight sun. Taken from novel by Jo Nesboand the story of John, a man forced to flee the clutches of his father (Peter Mullan), a powerful boss who he worked for and who he cheated on.

Find refuge in a remote village in the far north, whose inhabitants seem to belong to the past. Soon his path crosses that of Lea (Jessica Bown Findlay), her son Caleb (Raphael Vicas) and start a new life. The past, however, comes knocking again and it will be difficult not to lose the compass.

The hummingbirdby Francesca Archibugi

Field bean interprets Marco Carrera, an ophthalmologist fatigued by vicissitudinsi that have always afflicted his family. After a series of tragic events, the only one to survive is the granddaughter Marina Molitor (Katia Smutniak)for which it becomes the point of reference.

A comedy in costume with a new trio: Toni Servillo, Ficarra and Picone. The first is Louis Pirandellothe other two Bastiano Vella and Nofrio Principality. In our list of best Italian films of 2022 finally there is The lord of the ants. That is the story of the Braibanti casethe poet and playwright Aldo Braibanti (Louis LoCascio) protagonist of one judicial case sensational of the 60s: the conviction for plagiarism of the young man Ettore Tagliaferri (Leonardo Maltese).

When Ettore’s family manages to have him committed to a psychiatric hospital, Braibanti is accused to have subdued the boy physically and psychologically. The process it goes on for a few years, until it arrives the sentence.
