Dow Jones-The mood among US consumers weakened in January. As the research institute Conference Board reported, the index of consumer confidence fell to 104.1. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had expected a stand of 106.0. The previous month was revised to 109.5 from initially 104.7. The index for the assessment of the current situation was reduced to 134.3 (previous month: 144.0), the one for expectations fell to 83.9 (86.5).

The US consumers play a key role for the US economy because around 70 percent of gross domestic product depends on private consumption. As part of the Conference Board survey, a total of 5,000 households were interviewed.
