The aftermath of Eurovision has led to a special situation in Moldova. CEO of the country’s public broadcasting company Vlad Turcanu resigned from his post on Monday.
The CEO cited the votes of the Moldovan jury in Eurovision as the reason for his resignation. The country’s professional panel gave neighboring Romania only 3 points. The feeling was also aroused by the fact that the neighboring country Ukraine was completely without points in the assessment of the professionals.
– From our point of view, the jury did not take into account the sensitivities that exist between the Republic of Moldova and our neighbors, Romania and Ukraine, Turcanu commented on the reasons for his resignation.
– Our attitude towards Ukraine is not zero point, and our feelings towards Romania can only be feelings of love, he pointed out.
Moldova became independent in August 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed. In January of this year, it was reported that Romania would be ready to unite with Moldova. In the background, the security situation has changed because Russia tried to influence the elections in Moldova last fall.
– Romania is ready to sit down at the negotiating table at any time and seriously discuss this scenario, provided of course that the Republic of Moldova considers it an option, commented the advisor to the President of Romania.
