The Maustetytöt duo is praised in international magazines

The Maustetytöt duo has gained international visibility since their song Born in sorrow and clothed in disappointment was presented Aki Kaurismäki Dead leaves in the movie. The director’s work was awarded the prestigious Fipresci award in the summer and was selected as Finland’s Oscar candidate.

– For one musical scene, he (Kaurismäki) hired the impossibly cool, modern Finnish Maustetytöt duo. The band performs a song with the lyrics “I like you, but I can’t stand myself”, the critic Esther Zuckerman admires the band in his assessment.

The duo has received similar praise in European newspapers as well.

International attention has also brought the duo foreign gigs. Band members, siblings Give it and Kaisa Karjalainen, have performed for the first time outside Finland’s borders during the fall. There have been gigs in Germany, Sweden and the Czech Republic. The concert cities are Cologne, Munich, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg and Sundsvall.

Duo’s manager Aki Roukala tells For Helsingin Sanomatthat with these prospects the band will have more gigs abroad.

– At the moment, we are organizing another four-gig tour to Italy for December. Next year there will be at least a festival appearance in February in Switzerland, a longer Central European tour in France and Germany in May–June and a tour of a few gigs in September in Sweden, he reveals to the magazine.
