Kolibri, who won Masked Singer, originally did not intend to participate in the competition at all.
When the singer Bess was asked to join in autumn 2022 Masked Singer Finland – for the most recent production season of the program, he refused.
– At the time of filming, I had just finished the arena tour Antti Tuiskun with and released the album. I was supposed to take a two-week “vacation”, in other words, to train for the festival summer, Bess explains in an interview with Iltalehti.
Later, the invitation came again. This time the singer said yes. The opportunity to perform some of my favorite songs was too good to pass up.

Bluff
Bess, in a hummingbird costume, ended up winning the whole competition. The final episode was shown on TV on Saturday.
The planned two-week vacation ended up being spent almost around the clock at work. In the same week that Masked Singer episodes were recorded, Bess filmed Mission-from the music video of his summer rubber song.
The music video also had a guest appearance Masked Singer -detective Jenni Poikelus. Bess says that she carefully guarded her words in the company of Poikelus, because she knew that he was thinking about the Masked Singer characters.
The day before to Masked Singer had filmed a segment where Bess sang Carola Häggkvist a song Främling.
– Mission during the filming, I just said to fool Jenni that the Swedish language doesn’t really bend, Bess recalls with a laugh.

In the end, the spoof didn’t work, but after the third performance, the detectives connected Kolibri’s mystery voice with Bess.
– I guessed that Benjamin (Field) recognizes my sound because we have been recording together, Bess says.
Double appearance
Bess was seen Masked Singer -on stage also as himself. In the semi-final episode, he appeared as a guest star with Maajussi’s character. The two sang Antti Tuiskun and Bess’ joint piece Grindr Mayhem.
Kolibri also competed in the same episode.
– It was really confusing. My first question was, can I do this, Bess commented on the double appearance.
Bess emphasizes that each character chooses their own songs. Bess’s UMK hit song was already heard earlier in the season performed by Maajuss Ram bam bam. The singer was revealed behind Maajussi’s mask Hanna Pakarinen.
– I was really taken and grateful that he wanted to choose these songs.

– I was picked up by car and escorted to my cabin. I was there all day training by myself. From there I went to camera training and filming. It is a special experience.
Confusion
Bess was heard in the program doing versions, among other things Laila Kinnus and Whitney Houston. The singer says that her father is a big fan of Laila Kinnusen and her productions were listened to a lot during Bessi’s childhood.

Whitney Houston I Have Nothing -song was heard as Kolibri’s third song. According to Bess, this was not supposed to happen.
– There was some confusion. Whitney Houston’s song and Mas que Nadan should have been the other way around. It was a shame, Bess reveals.
Bess describes that she was still striving for a Brazilian hit Mas que Nadan at the point to mask his voice, but of I Have Nothing he knew he would be recognized right away.
Bess doesn’t know why the mix-up had happened. He realized it only when he was about to step onto the stage and there were Stages related to different songs waiting.
– I wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone except those who escorted me from one place to another. They have no say in the songs.

The story of the hummingbird

– Hummingbirds have a mysticism and symbolism that speaks to me, Bess explains.

Bess admits that she hasn’t watched the finished episodes on TV at all because she’s so excited. He still doesn’t know who his competition partners were.
