The long-cherished wish of terminally ill Roelie is coming true at the TT Circuit

De Jonge and her family are grateful to instructors Jacob and Mark for making her wish come true. “It was great. Cool!” she shouts enthusiastically. She got off the bike with a broad smile.

When asked whether it went as flat and as fast as desired, she laughingly indicates that it could have been even flatter. During the three laps, speeds of 250 kilometers per hour were reached, for a brief moment. “Wonderful, I’m really glad I did this. On to the next wishes.”

Her husband had organized the ride for her. No one knew about it, except for two friends. “Exciting and fun but also emotional,” he says when his wife races around the circuit. “Something goes through your mind when you know what preceded it. If you only have six months to a year to live, you try to make the most of it. You can rest assured that I just shed some tears.”
